MOL upgrades 80 bulk carriers with energy-saving software

Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has confirmed the decision on the additional equipment of 80 bulkers on an experimental basis. This decision was influenced by the energy saving analysis developed in Helsinki on the basis of NAPA software.

This software is based on the information that are obtained from ship logs and AIS. It will further analyze traffic performance with various data.

The NAPA will examine the impact of measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from MOLs, such as more efficient motor control, timely maintenance of hulls and propellers to prevent thrust reduction.

In addition, NAPA can be easily used on other vessels to optimize rolling stock performance and will reduce the environmental impact, even for vessels operating under short-term charter contracts.
